The exhibition "Mestre João Alberto - no reino dos barcos" (Mestre João Alberto - in the realm of boats) will open at the Whaling Industry Museum in São Roque do Pico next Friday, July 13, at 9:30 PM. This event is organised by the Pico Museum and supported by the Regional Directorate for Culture and Presidency of the Government of the Azores.
This exhibition represents, above all, the need to disseminate the meritorious and remarkable work of an extraordinary Azorean - "Mestre" João Alberto das Neves. Being a common man, endowed with an exceptional working ability as well as an extraordinary management capacity, he is the author of an absolutely stunning work for its exceptional quality and size.
In the wake of the great tradition and heritage of the great shipbuilders in the Azores, "Mestre" João Alberto is last major reference of Santo Amaro do Pico, the regional capital of wooden shipbuilding of the 20th century.
By honouring "Mestre" João Alberto, the Pico Museum also evokes the memory of all those who took part in the naval shipbuilding odyssey in Santo Amaro and the island of Pico.
The exhibition will be open to the public at the Whaling Industry Museum until the end of September and may be visited on the centre's regular operating hours.
