The Pico Museum promotes a concert by Italian cellist and viola da gamba player Giovanna Barbati next Saturday, October 28, at the auditorium of the Whaling Museum at 9 PM; admission is free. The concert is held under the Jazzores 2017 Music Festival that is taking place on the island of Santa Maria, Pico, Faial and São Miguel between October 24 and November 3.
Since 1999, the Jazzores Music Festival has stimulated the taste for dialogue between distant epochs, hosting interpreters who combine contemporaneity with early music. Giovanna Barbati is an example of this heterogeneity.
She graduated with honours in viola da gamba at the Conservatory of L’Aquila. For several years, she has been the principal cellist and viola da gamba soloist at the Montis Regalis Academy.
In the concert to be held at the Whaling Museum in Lajes do Pico, Giovanna Barbati will perform with a cello made by Ambroise de Comble, dating from 1751.
