Ponta Delgada Public Library and Regional Archive organises reading promotion activities
The Ponta Delgada Public Library and Regional Archive holds will organise a series of reading promotion activities between October 21 and 28, including storytelling sessions and accredited training conducted by Rodolfo Castro.
There are two initiatives planned under the "Storytelling Sessions," the first of which is aimed at groups and schools and includes the presentation of a selection of irreverent, entertaining and unexpected stories.
This initiative, aimed at preschool and elementary school children, will take place on October 23, 25 and 27, with sessions scheduled for 10 AM and 2 PM. Each session may be attended up to two classes; prior registration is required.
The second initiative, entitled "Midnight Tales of the World," is aimed at adult audiences and includes a selection of author stories and traditional tales from different cultures, both ancient and modern.
The first session of this event is directed to senior audiences. It will take place on October 27 at 3 PM and requires previous registration. In turn, the session for adult audiences will be held on October 28 at 9 PM; admission is free.
On October 24 and 26, the Library will host a reading aloud workshop held under the title "Choir of Readers." It is directed to middle school students.
The activity includes sessions at 10 AM and 2 PM and requires prior registration; only one class will be admitted per session.
In turn, the initiative entitled "Talk about reading aloud" will present suggestions, tips and criticisms on the methods to approach reading and the support to the training of readers.
Directed to parents and teachers, this event will take place on October 28 at 3 PM; registrations should be made until October 26.
The Library also organises a "Storytellers Laboratory," a 25-hour accredited training that intends to provide theoretical and practical tools to work with books and reading in the classroom and in other contexts.
The accreditation of this training is mainly directed to elementary school teachers as well as to middle school teachers who teach Portuguese and English. Participants are required to attend 90% of the training course and to take the final exam.
The training course will be conducted by Arrifes Basic Education School in conjunction with Ponta Delgada Public Library and Regional Archive.
Attendance of 90% is also mandatory for the remaining participants that do not fall into the target audience. All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.
This initiative, aimed at teachers and reading mediators, will take place on October 21 from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and from 2 to 6 PM, on October 23-27 between 6:30 and 9:30 PM, and on October 28 from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
A native of Argentina, Rodolfo Castro is currently a writer and accredited trainer in the area of literature and short stories.
