Ponta Delgada Public Library and Regional Archive promotes Children's and Youth Book Fair in Sete Cidades in April
The Regional Directorate for Culture, through the Ponta Delgada Public Library and Regional Archive (BPARPD), will organise a "Children's and Youth Book Fair...used books and others" at the Village Council of Sete Cidades on April 2 and 3 between 12 and 6 PM.
With this initiative, held under the celebrations of the International Children's Book Day, the Ponta Delgada Public Library will bring books and reading activities to other locations of São Miguel island. The aim is to promote and encourage the access to reading among populations with fewer resources. They are more distant from the main urban centres and do not have the same opportunities to attend cultural institutions and take part in initiatives.
The "Children's and Youth Book Fair...used books and others" will include the sale of used books at low cost, which were donated by the community to the Ponta Delgada Public Library, the sale of used books from personal collections at stalls installed for that purpose and the sale of books by bookshops that wish to take part in this initiative. The fair intents to provide a different experience to the local population as well as to all families who wish to visit Sete Cidades and participate in the event during the Easter period.
For the organisation of the event, the Ponta Delgada Public Library counts on the participation of people through the Campaign for the Collection of Used Books. Donated books may be deposited at the Book Container located at the Library reception until March 21. As an alternative, those who are interested may register at the address [email protected] in order to be able to sell their books at the Bookstall.
On April 2, the fair will include the "Story Hour" for families, an activity promoted by the group of storytellers "Histórias Requinhas."
The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events may be consulted in the Cultural Agenda of CulturAçores Portal at the following address: www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
