Regional Director for Culture participates in International Meeting of Azorean History and Genealogy in Brazil
The Regional Director of Culture will participate in the "International Meeting of History and Genealogy: documentary sources and knowledge production - from the Azores and Rio Grande do Sul" between June 15 and 17. The initiative is promoted by the Santa Casa Historical and Cultural Centre and will be in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
At this international meeting, Susana Goulart Costa will deliver two lectures as part of a diversified programme of activities that include various thematic panels.
This event is primarily intended to disseminate studies on History and Genealogy that relate the Azores and the southernmost areas of Brazil as well as to present Azorean archives as a privileged source for historical and genealogical research on the Azoreans who settled in Rio Grande do Sul. Moreover, it will also bring together the representatives of Municipal and State Archives of this Brazilian State for the presentation of the documentary and bibliographic sources related to the Azorean presence in their collections.
In the context of the results achieved with the holding of this Meeting, there are plans for the release of General Guide of documentary sources regarding the Azorean diaspora for southern Brazil between the 18th and 20th centuries.
In addition to the collaboration of the Regional Directorates for Culture and the Communities, this event also relies on the institutional support of Rio Grande do Sul Historic and Geographic Institute, the Rio Grande do Sul Public Archive, the Historical Archive of the Archdiocese of Porto Alegre and the Origins Workshop.
