Regional Directorate for Culture receives "Regional Azorean Music - Collection by Emiliano Toste between 1978 and 2017"
The Regional Directorate for Culture (DRC) received the collection "Azorean Regional Music - Collection by Emiliano Toste," being the result of four decades of four decades of collection, recording, inventorying, cataloguing and editing music from the nine islands of the Azores.
The collection was donated to the Region by Emiliano Toste, a native of Praia da Vitória. He graduated in Music Education at the University of Minho and also holds a degree in Singing from the Music Conservatory of Gaia. He currently works as teacher, music producers and organiser of artistic events.
Consisting of 51 compact discs, the estate includes the research carried out between 1978 and 2017, namely eight CDs containing the reediting and sound recovery of the field work carried out by Artur Santos on the islands of Santa Maria, São Miguel and Terceira between 1952 And 1960. He is a reference in national ethnomusicology.
The estate also includes 44 CDs containing the reissue of traditional Azorean music, bearing the seal of music publisher AÇOR, between 1966 and 2017, for purposes of comparative studies. Moreover, there are also 33 CDs containing music from all islands of the archipelago and 18 complementary CDs with interviews.
