The Regional Director for Culture confirmed in Ponta Delgada on Wednesday morning that the restoration works of the wood carving works of the Santa Bárbara Church, annexed to the Santa Bárbara Centre at the Carlos Machado Museum should be completed within two months.
This is a church with wood carving works of exceptional value, such as the silver altarpiece, which is unique in the Azores; therefore it is important to restore and preserve its heritage value.
Jorge Bruno visited the restoration works in progress, which correspond to a public investment of nearly 84,000 Euros, and said that this work will be followed by some minor repairs on the floor and interior paintings. Once concluded, the church will be open to the public as a complement of the museum activities of the Santa Bárbara Centre at the Carlos Machado Museum.
Speaking to the Media, the Regional Director for Culture also confirmed the drafting of the general plan for the renewal works of the former Santo André Convent where the main centre of the Carlos Machado Museum is installed. The respective public call for tenders is estimated to be launched next year.
Moreover, the Regional Director travelled to the village of Água d’Alto where he visited the ongoing restoration works of a Bugatti T23 Brescia, which belongs to the collection of the Carlos Machado Museum.
