The Santa Maria Museum opens to the public the exhibition featuring some of the most iconic album covers designed by Andy Warhol at “Espaço em Cena” restaurant in Vila do Porto until April 30.
American painter and filmmaker Andy Warhol was one of the greatest representatives of the pop art movement. He had his first solo exhibition in 1952 at Hugo Gallery, where he presented 15 drawings based on the work of Truman Capote.
The 1960s marked a turning point in his artistic career when he began to use advertising motifs and concepts in his works with strong and bright colours and acrylic paints. At this time, he also reinvented pop art, through the mechanical reproduction of the multiple screen printing, daily themes, consumables and famous celebrities.
In total, Andy Warhol designed the graphic project of over one hundred album covers, part of which are now on display in this exhibition.
