CTT – Correios de Portugal (Postal Services of Portugal) pay tribute the Azorean whaling art and industry with the launching of a philatelic issue titled “Actividade Baleeira nos Açores” (Whaling in the Azores) to be held at the Whaling Museum in Lajes do Pico on August 24 at 9:30 PM. 

The stamps, with face values of 0.32 Euros, 0.68 Euros, 0.80 Euros and 2 Euros, represent images depicting the different moments of whaling hunting and were designed by Francisco Gamboa. This issue also includes two miniature sheets priced at 1.75 and 2.30 Euros.

The issue is supported by the Presidency of the Regional Government of the Azores, the Regional Directorate for Culture and by the Pico Museum.

The first day of issue cover will take place on the same day at the Restauradores (Lisbon), Município (Porto), Zarco (Funchal) and Antero de Quental (Ponta Delgada) Post Offices.
