Valentine's Day marked at Public Libraries of Ponta Delgada, Angra do Heroísmo and Horta
The Regional Directorate for Culture promotes several initiatives intended to celebrate Valentine's Day next Thursday, February 14, at the Public Libraries and Regional Archives of Ponta Delgada, Luís da Silva Ribeiro in Angra do Heroísmo and João José da Graça in Horta.
The Ponta Delgada Public Library and Regional Archive celebrates Valentine's Day and World Poetry Day, marked on March 21, with an exhibition of love letters and poetry manuscripts belonging to its document collection. It will be open to the public between February 14 and March 31.
The documents on display include letters and poems written by renowned personalities in the area of culture, such as Natália Correia, Vitorino Nemésio, Teófilo Braga and Almeida Garrett.
With the aim of bringing poetry closer to library users, this institution will also present a poetry roll containing copies of the transcriptions of poetry manuscripts on display and those from other authors, inviting visitors to collect a poem.
In turn, the Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive in Angra do Heroísmo will mark Valentine's Day with a "Blind Date with Books" on February 14 and 15.
This activity has been held for the past two years and has been widely accepted by the public. It is intended that the reader does not judge the book by its cover, author, title or synopsis, thus calling for a new experience with books.
The João José da Graça Public Library and Regional Archive in Horta celebrates this date with an exhibition of love poetry and letters that will be open to the public from February 14 to 21 between 9 AM and 6 PM.
The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events may be consulted in the Cultural Agenda of CulturAçores Portal at the following address: www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
