The cultural project “Archipelago,” which will be developed with the installation of a Contemporary Art Centre at the building of the old alcohol factory in Ribeira Grande, “will count on the support of the Luso-American Foundation for Development (FLAD) with a contemporary art collection,” stated the Regional Director for Culture.
In fact, a protocol signed between the Regional Directorate of Culture (DRaC) and the Luso-American Foundation on July 20 will allow the organisation of contemporary art exhibitions on several Azorean islands as early as next year.
Therefore, the Regional Directorate for Culture intends to start the operation of this regional project which will be headquartered in the city of Ribeira Grande, São Miguel Island.
According to the Regional Director for Culture, “the cooperation protocol now signed represents another step towards the opening of the Azores to universal culture, allowing the public and Azorean creators to become acquainted with the most relevant works in the context of contemporary artistic creation in Portugal.”
Jorge Paulus Bruno, Regional Director for Culture, and Mário Mesquita, Director of FLAD, signed the agreement on behalf of both entities.
Over the past twenty years, the FLAD’s contemporary art collection has played an important role in promoting artistic creation in Portugal and it has been on display at several national and international exhibitions.
This cooperation also ensures the continuity of the activities previously carried out between DRaC and FLAD, particularly the art exhibitions held in Ponta Delgada, Angra do Heroísmo and Horta.
