The National School Cross Country competition to take place in Açoteias, Algarve, on February 23 and 24 will involve the participation of eight Azorean athletes.
The athletes selected in the regional competition, held last weekend, to participate in the national event are as follows: Margarida Garcia from Domingos Rebelo Secondary School in Ponta Delgada and Daniela Santos from São Roque do Pico Basic Education and Secondary School - Female Beginners; Miguel Rocha from Praia da Vitória Basic Education School and Diogo Ávila from Manuel de Arriaga Secondary School in Horta - Male Beginners
As for the juvenile category, the selected athletes were the following: Inês Gonzaga from Domingos Rebelo Secondary School and Tatiana Melo from Manuel de Arriaga Secondary School; Bruno Ávila from Manuel de Arriaga Secondary School and Diogo Ribeiro from Vitorino Nemésio.
These athletes won the first two places in the Regional Phase of the 13th edition of the School Cross Country competition, which took place at Praia da Vitória Marsh Environmental Park.
The event involved about 150 participants and was held simultaneously with the Regional Cross Country, which included Adapted Athletics.
Bearing in mind the adherence of the Azores School Sports Association to ProSucesso, the Regional Directorate for Sport promotes, for the 13th consecutive year, the organisation of the School Cross Country. This project aims to strengthen and value social principals, among other educational and training goals.
