Eight Azorean students will participate in the National School Cross Country that takes place in Torres Vedras on March 10 and 11.
The following students have qualified to this national competition by winning the first and second places in the Regional Phase of School Cross Country that took place at Santa Luzia Forest Park on February 11: Bruno Ávila (Manuel de Arriaga Secondary School) and Miguel Rocha (Praia da Vitória Basic Education School), male beginner's level; Elena Furk (Biscoitos Basic Education School) and Margarida Garcia (Domingos Rebelo Secondary School), female beginners' level; Diogo Ribeiro (Vitorino Nemésio Secondary School) and Luís Bernardo (Tomás de Borba Basic Education and Secondary School), male juniors; Inês Gonzaga (Domingos Rebelo Secondary School) and Tatiana Melo (Manuel de Arriaga Secondary School), female juniors.
The event was attended by 92 students, aged between 9 and 18, from the islands of Pico (48), S. Jorge (8), Terceira (7), Graciosa (7), S. Miguel (6), Faial (6) Flores (5), Corvo (3) and Santa Maria (2).
The competition was held in conjunction with associative Regional Cross Country, featuring the participation of Adapted Athletics and a walk for senior citizens.
These activities, together with the School Cross Country, have brought together 350 active participants.
This initiative also included an awareness-raising action aimed at students, teachers and all clubs of Pico Island, which was carried out under the National Plan of Ethics in Sport.
