Government awards financial support over 104 thousand Euros to Skating and Hockey
The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Directorate for Sport, which is under the administration of the Regional Secretariat for Education and Training, has allocated a global amount of 104,637 Euros to Speed Skating, Figure Skating and Hockey through a contract-programme signed between Skating Associations (São Miguel, Terceira and Pico) and the Regional Directorate for Sport.
Through this contract-programme, 50,798.00 Euros were allocated to Hockey. Of this amount, 41,664.00 Euros were awarded to support regional events, 6360.00 Euros to national events and 2774.00 Euros to regional refereeing.
In the area of Speed Skating, the allocated amount makes up a total of 46,158.00 Euros, of which 13030.00 Euros are intended to support regional events, 29040.00 Euros to national events and 2740 Euros to regional refereeing.
In turn, Figure Skating will be supported in the amount of 7681.00 Euros; 7208.00 Euros will be allocated to national events and 473.00 Euros to regional refereeing.
The contract was signed at the annual summit between sports associations and the Regional Director for Sport, which was also held with the purpose of collecting statistical information on these sports in the year 2011.
According to the data provided, there were 260 Hockey athletes distributed among 14 clubs with 27 coaches, 30 leaders and 11 referees / judges.
There were 351 athletes practising Speed Skating in a total of 14 clubs with 19 coaches, 16 leaders and 31 referees / judges.
In turn, Figure Skating registered a total of 211 athletes representing 14 clubs with 4 coaches, 2 leaders and 23 referees / judges.
