The Island Stage of MegaSprinter is taking place throughout the archipelago until Wednesday, January 27. The project was promoted by the Regional Directorate for Sport for 12th consecutive year in the context of the activities organised under the Azores School Sport initiative.

During this stage of the project, which has joined ProSucesso - Azores for Education, programme for the promotion of school success, the estimated number of participants will be nearly 900 students from different age groups.

The regional rankings of MegaSprinter and MegaSalto will be created taking into consideration the result of island phases and will determine the qualification for the Regional Phase, which will be held on February 19 and 20 on the island of Terceira.

The winners of the Regional Phase will be qualified for the National Phase to take place on April 15 and 16 in Lagoa, Algarve.

MegaSprinter aims to increase school sports activities and, simultaneously, identify the youngsters who showcase good performances in terms of speed, since this is the main skill in a vast majority of sports.
