Regional Director for Sport acknowledges importance of u-11 football tournament promoted by Clube União Micaelense
The Regional Director for Sport highlighted in Ponta Delgada the activities carried out by Clube União Micaelense, one of the "historic" Azorean sports clubs that has been serving the community for more than 100 years.
António Gomes spoke at the presentation of the 13th International Football Tournament Azores U11 to be held on the island of São Miguel between April 18 and 20. On the occasion, he acknowledged the event promoted by Clube União Micaelense for its "concerns with ethical values."
"We acknowledge, particularly, the promotion of a fair play prize for supporters," António Gomes said, also noting the "solidarity expressed" by Clube União Micaelense in supporting the donation of sports equipment to the Cape Verdean team participating in the tournament.
The Regional Director also stressed the importance of this competition for the promotion of tourism in the Azores, given its international scope, with the participation of teams from Europe, America and Africa.
The Regional Government supports this edition with a financial allocation of 18 thousand Euros as this competitions falls within the strategy to support tourism events developed by entities that promote the name of the Azores, in this specific case, through sports events. Additionally, it also contributes to increasing tourism flows with the number of participants in the event, stimulating the local economy.
The Clube União Micaelense, founded in May 1911, has mainly focused its activity on football. However, it has recently been promoting futsal, which has registered an average of more than 200 athletes per season over the last four years.
