The Regional Director for Education and Training delivered the selection certificates for the next phase of the Ilídio Pinho Foundation Award "Science in School" to the Divertiláxia kindergarten in Praia da Vitória on Tuesday afternoon.
Two of the three projects submitted by this preschool establishment were selected to the final phase of this national competition.
Of the six projects submitted by Azorean schools, five were selected in the first phase. Besides the two projects submitted by Divertiláxia kindergarten, the works presented by the elementary level of Tomás de Borba School in Angra do Heroísmo and by the middle school level of Ribeira Grande Secondary School and Santa Maria Basic Education and Secondary School were also distinguished in this national event.
The Ilídio Pinho Award aims to encourage students, from preschool to secondary school, for the learning of science and the study of technological areas.
On the occasion, Maria da Graça Teixeira conveyed the satisfaction of the Regional Directorate for Education with the fact that several Azorean projects were selected in this national project that plays an important role in the promotion of contextualised teaching.
The Regional Director emphasised the fact that students, "are learning by doing from a very young age," adding that "this why we work hard every day, so that children may feel that the school brings added value and, thus, they will be able to learn how to do and to be different with the dedication and work carried out by teachers at schools.
