The Mouzinho da Silveira School and Biscoitos School on Corvo and Terceira, respectively, were distinguished in the 2016 edition with the School Prize awarded by the Montepio Foundation.
The prizes, with a cash amount of 6,000 Euros, distinguish "the merit, innovation and excellence" of public schools, as announced by the institution.
Promoted by the Montepio Foundation, the initiative is already in its eight edition. It aims to "distinguish innovative and quality projects developed in coordination with various areas of learning, namely Math, English, History, Science, Citizenship and Environment, whose impact of ideas and contents implements good practices at school and in the local community."
In addition to the two Azorean schools, the Montepio 2016 School Prize was also awarded to another three schools in Madeira, Bragança and Montijo.
According to the Montepio Foundation, the prizes are exclusively intended for the purchase of equipment, organisation of field trip and training of teachers.
