Lagoa Secondary School's project distinguished at 8th National Science Exhibition
The project designed as "Availability of iodine and subsequent morphological changes in thyroid" won 2nd place at the 8th National Science Exhibition, an event that was held at the Electricity Museum in Lisbon between May 29 and 31. The winning project was developed by a group of students from Lagoa Secondary School.
This projected competed with 100 projects developed in various scientific areas from several regions in the country. It was developed throughout the school year by the students of 12ºA class, who were accompanied by their Biology teacher.
Since its public presentation, this work also relied on the scientific and technical support provided by professors of Histology at the Department of Biology of the University of the Azores.
Students Anna Hormann, Cândida Medeiros and Tânia Santos were the representatives of the project. They presented it before a jury composed of exports on different scientific areas, who acknowledge the quality of the work developed.
The project was also selected to represent Portugal in conjunction with the projects that were placed 1st and 3rd in the European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS), which will take place in Warsaw, Poland, between September 19 and 24.
