The Regional Directorates for Education and Agriculture will launch Wednesday, November 18, the school competition "Animal can also feel." Addressed at 4th form students attending regional schools, it encourages the production of artistic works, either in writing or in drawing, on issues related to the rights of animals and their well-beings.
Developed under the Regional Reading Plan, this competition aims to provide students the experience of innovative educational experiences and facilitate future learning, thus contributing to their growth and education as future responsible citizens who will become aware of the reality that surrounds them.
This initiative also promotes the acquisition of specific skills as defined according to the Benchmark Document of the Regional Curriculum for Basic Education, especially in the areas of Sustainable Development and "Azoreanity." It indents to raise the awareness of students for the defence of animals’ rights, the fight against abandonment and all forms of ill-treatment.
The dynamics of the implementation of the Regional Reading Plan in teaching practices of regional schools, the promotion and development of regional and local citizenship, the awareness for the importance of treating animals properly and the sharing of educational resources developed in schools in the educational community are other goals of this activity.
The presentation of the competition will take place at Cinco Ribeiras Elementary School and Kindergarten in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo. It will include the theatre play "A vaca estrelinha" (a cow named estrelinha), which was the national winner of the 1st prize of the second level in the video category in the school competition "Our History" that took place in the school year 2013/2014.
