According to the jury's decision, the Ribeira Grande Secondary School won the annual award "Daring, Intervening, Improving," while Lagoa Basic Education School won the second prize. The initiative was established by the Regional Directorate for Education.
The jury assessed 13 projects submitted by 11 school establishments from S. Miguel, Faial and Pico. It has also decided to award an honourable mention to S. Roque do Pico Basic and Secondary School.
The proposal submitted by Ribeira Grande Secondary School, entitled "We propose! Citizenship and Innovation in Geographical Education," won first place for being a project in full compliance with two of the goals set out in ProSucesso - Azores for Education. It demonstrates an efficient degree of coordination and influence with social partners and the community, in addition to evidencing quality and methodology in its implementation.
The second prize was awarded to the project entitled "Sing with Me, Read with You," developed by Lagoa Basic Education School, due to the wide coverage of its target audience and extended monitoring. It is in full compliance with one of the axes of ProSucesso, with special emphasis on the reading of literature.
Developed by S. Roque do Pico Basic Education and Secondary School, the "Assessing+" project was distinguished with an honourable mention for being a good example of flexibility in evaluation. It is already at a good level of operation, which has brought an impact to the results achieved by students.
The "Daring, Intervening, Improving" prize aims to recognise and value school establishments promoting innovative projects on formal and non-formal education, created or adapted by them, which provide a response to the educational problems they face.
Furthermore, it acknowledges the work carried out by schools to combat school failure and dropout, improve teaching conditions and student learning, and disseminate the results of the work developed by the school towards academic success to their peers, the school community and society in general.
The jury assessing the projects consisted of the following members: Margarida Quinteiro, Regional Directorate for Education, Francisco Simões, professor at the Centre for Research and Social Intervention - ISCTE, University Institute of Lisbon, and Augusto Oliveira, professor at Praia da Vitória Basic Education School.
