The Regional Directorate for Education promotes a lecture on "The School Today!" in Ponta Delgada and Angra do Heroísmo, which will be delivered by Adelino Calado, Head of the Association of Schools of Carcavelos, municipality of Cascais.
Included in the REDA Meetings, this lecture will be held on July 6 at Antero Quental Secondary School in Ponta Delgada and on the following day at Jerónimo Emiliano de Andrade Secondary School in Angra do Heroísmo; both start at 2:30 PM.
The REDA Meetings aim to foster the development of scientific and digital literacy among the educational community and the society in general, through workshops, panels and lectures intended to share experiences and knowledge in an informal context.
These meetings, which began in March, have already included the participation of Afonso Cruz, who addressed the theme of creative writing, and Alexandre Quintanilha, who explored the emerging challenges to knowledge.
REDA is an open digital educational resources platform developed under the Integrated Plan ProSucesso - Azores for Education; it is updated on a regular basis.
This support platform for teachers and students provides educational resources in various subjects, with special emphasis on Portuguese, Math, Physics and Chemistry, as well as useful links, webinars and sharing of experiences.
Currently, REDA provides 435 teaching resources and 89 suggestions for educational applications.
Adelino Calado has been the Head of the Association of Schools in Carcavelos since 2003. He has excelled in the organisation of curriculum and the school itself through a strong educational leadership.
The lecture to be delivered in the Azores will disseminate the work developed by his team, fostering a change in the teaching system of that Group of Schools, from elementary to secondary education.
For more than a decade, this model of evaluation and learning has been implemented in the schools of Carcavelos. Its primary goal is to promote greater autonomy and responsibility among the students so that it may be reflected on their school results and, consequently, in the decrease of school failure rates.
