"Together We Can Read - Azores" project reaches more than 200 students from S. Miguel and Terceira
The Regional Directorate for Education (DRE) and the PT Foundation will sign Friday, November 2, the third amendment to the Letter of Commitment of the protocol established under the "Together We Can Read - Azores" project, an initiative promoted by the Regional Network of School Libraries. The signing ceremony will take place at Maia Basic Education School, São Miguel Island.
The Letter of Commitment was signed between DRE and the PT Foundation in September 2015. It has provided the libraries of 12 regional school establishments with software and equipment designed to facilitate communication and contribute to the construction of inclusive resources towards accessible reading opportunities for all students.
"Together We Can Read - Azores," which is in its fourth consecutive year, will reach 209 students enrolled at Roberto Ivens, Ribeira Grande, Capelas, Arrifes, Água de Pau, Rabo de Peixe and Maia Basic Education Schools and at Nordeste and Laranjeiras Secondary Schools (S. Miguel). As for the island of Terceira, the project will cover Praia da Vitória Basic Education School and Tomás de Borba Secondary School.
This project is primarily intended to provide all students with reading opportunities, through the creation of inclusive school libraries. They seek to ensure that all students have reading opportunities, being a space of excellence for the development of reading, media and information literacy. In this context, they also guarantee equal opportunities, both in a socio-cultural context and in a learning context.
The PT Foundation has been the driving force of a new social paradigm based on the digital inclusion of the populations with special needs. The Special Solutions subsidised by the PT Foundation, being adapted to the needs of citizens with disabilities, provide their access to school, professional and social activities, thus contributing to digital inclusion in a structured manner.
