The Velas Basic Education and Secondary School (EBS), São Jorge, will participate in the European programme Comenius with the project "Learning by Watching," an initiative developed in the area of school education and mobility for learning, which has been already approved by the Erasmus+ national agency.
The project promoted by this school will developed over two years in a telecommuting environment and will focus on the observation of different educational contexts in special education.
The President of the School Board of Velas Basic Education and Secondary School, Rui Moreira, stressed that with this project "participants will have an opportunity to acquire knowledge and new methodologies that can be adopted to the local reality, thus contributing to the innovation of educational practices and the mobilisation of school community for change."
The results of the project will be disseminated through the networks eTwinning and Facebook, but also through internal and external training courses targeted at teachers and education support technicians. In this regard, Rui Moreira, admitted the possibility of organising a regional seminar on the practices observed in different European school contexts.
The project involves six European countries; the Velas Basic Education and Secondary School is participating with five teachers from the Special Education Department and a psychologist.
The Comenius programme aims to improve quality and reinforce the European dimension of education, from preschool to secondary school and in school establishments teaching the same levels of education. Hence, this initiative will reach the entire school community.
The activities are being developed in the 27 Member States of the European Union, EFTA-EEA countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland), Turkey and in overseas countries and territories that belong to the European Union.
