The Regional Inspectorate of Education (IRE) has the mission of ensuring the strategic monitoring of the Region's education system. It is responsible for the supervision of legal affairs pertaining to this area as well as for administrative, financial and management auditing, being also in charge of evaluating activities and programmes, school establishments, entities, services and bodies within the regional education system. The provision of specialised technical support also falls within its competences.
The IRE has a wide scope of action that is not limited to legal compliance. It is responsible for ensuring equity in the regional education system, safeguarding the legitimate interests of all its members and users.
This entity strives for the quality of the regional education system, namely through the planning and conduction of inspections and audits to school establishments, thus enabling a close monitoring of the operation and legal conformity of school establishments.
In addition to supervising school establishments and their managing boards in the technical-educational, administrative-financial, budget and human resource areas, the IRE intends to develop an educational and preventive approach to irregularities, thus becoming a modern inspectorate in light of the challenges of 21st century Education.
