Regional Inspectorate of Education to carry out comprehensive evaluation of schools
As part of its activity plan for 2015, the Regional Inspectorate of Education will carry out during the month of November and early December a comprehensive evaluation in two regional schools, mobilising all members of this body.
This action will be carried out for the first time in the Autonomous Region of the Azores in cooperation with the Union of Education and Teaching Inspector, after being held by the General Inspection of Education and Science in Mainland Portugal.
It is an innovative action, given that the school under evaluation will be assessed in a specific area; it will be evaluated in a comprehensive manner in the educational, administrative and financial components.
The initiative begins with the self-evaluation conducted by the school, which will be followed by the assessment conducted by the team of inspectors who will check the strengths and weaknesses of the areas under evaluation, allowing the school to develop its own improvement plan.
The work of inspectors will very comprehensive, including interviews with the members of the school staff, document analysis and observation of classes. It is focused on areas that are vital to the development of the school, such as the organisation and management, evaluation of results, school environment, and learning.
This inspection also aims to recognise the value of learning, reinforce self-evaluation processes, the involvement of different actors in the process as well as the assessment of school's overall performance in its various components.
