Avelino Meneses expresses "confidence" in teachers in the battle for school success

The Regional Secretary for Culture and Education expressed today his "confidence" in the teachers "who toil on a daily basis for the recovery" of children and youngsters towards the "path to success."

Avelino Meneses also conveyed his "hope" that, after winning the battle of school success, the Fénix project "may be useful in stimulating the learning of students with a higher level of proficiency, since the ultimate goal of education is the achievement of excellence."

Speaking at the beginning of the meeting of the coordinators of the Fénix Project in the Azores, the Regional Secretary considered this project as "a powerful learning recovery tool" that will bring "new opportunities to all students with learning difficulties."

The Fénix Project, which currently covers 3,000 students from 18 regional school establishments, "is based on a partnership work," underlined Avelino Meneses.

"This educational project also prepares teachers for the scientific and educational struggles of the present and the future, which increasingly require the implementation of networking," added the government official.

"Without burdening students with extra time for teaching support, which sometimes can intensify children's dislike of school, the Fénix initiative is perfectly suited to the school reality of today," considered the Regional Secretary.

According to Avelino Meneses, this reality is marked "by the heterogeneity of students. This implies the coexistence of different levels of learning in the same room, which often requires a more personalised support to those who have learning difficulties, otherwise they can be at risk of school failure."
