Avelino Meneses highlights efforts and responsibility of Canto da Maia school community
The Regional Secretary for Education and Culture highlighted in Ponta Delgada "the responsibility and the effort" of the school community of Canto da Maia Basic Education School.
Avelino Meneses spoke at the end of a visit to the new building of Canto da Maia School on the island of São Miguel. He stressed that during "a long school year" the school community was able to carry out their activities as usual while the works were still ongoing.
The facilities now completed and ready to be used in the beginning of the school year will house approximately 600 preschool and middle school students. The works in the building that will house elementary school students will be concluded by the end of the school year 2017/2018. The school will have capacity for 1,100 students.
"For a long time there were few who believed that this new building would ready to welcome students at the beginning of this new school year, and also few believed that we would be able to remove asbestos in a timely manner. The task has already been concluded," said Avelino Meneses.
The Secretary for Education and Culture also mentioned the ongoing works in Calheta Basic Education and Secondary School on São Jorge and announced that the Government will move forward with works in the schools buildings of Capelas, Arrifes, Lagoa and Rabo de Peixe, after concluding the necessary procedural conditions.
Alluding to the beginning of the school year 2017-2018 that starts Wednesday, the day dedicated to ProSucesso, Avelino Meneses emphasised that schools have the necessary human resources to start the school year without any constraint.
