Avelino Meneses highlights work developed under ProSucesso - Azores for Education
The Regional Secretary for Education and Culture highlighted today the "serious and dedicated" work carried out under the integrated plan for the promotion of school success, designated as ProSucesso - Azores for Education, which is in the second year of implementation.
Speaking to journalists at the beginning of the meeting of the Scientific Council of ProSucesso, Avelino Meneses pointed out that this meeting aims to "reach one of two conclusions," that is, to know if "we are on the right track" or if "we need to correct some aspects in our path."
The Secretary for Education conveyed his belief that "we are carrying out a serious and very dedicated work." However, it is necessary to analyse the data available and "correct some aspects, if necessary."
For Avelino Meneses, the data known so far is "encouraging," but he recalled that ProSucesso is a 10-year plan.
"We are in the second year of implementation, so we are very far from achieving the goals that we effectively intend," said the government official.
Nevertheless, Avelino Meneses pointed out that "some goals" set for 2020/2021 were already reached in the first year of implementation of this programme (2015/2016), both in basic education and secondary education.
"This is just a sign," said the government official. According to recent international "good and acceptable" assessment of the results achieved by Azorean students, "there is a long way to go that needs hard work in order to overcome it successfully."
The Scientific Council of the Integrated Plan for the Promotion of School Success, among other competences, defines the main axes, proposes measures and supports the coordinating committee of ProSucesso.
This Council is composed of the following members: António Sampaio da Nóvoa, Ana Maria Bettencourt, António Câmara, Ermelindo Peixoto, Maria Amélia Correia de Campos, Roberto Carneiro and Suzete Pacheco Câmara.
