Avelino Meneses restates Regional Government's priority in the fight against truancy
The Regional Secretary for Education and Culture stated today that the school "cannot neglect" its educational and social missions during the pandemic situation.
Avelino Meneses spoke by video conference at the PIC Meeting - Partnership for Community Intervention for Educational Success "School, Community, Family." “The prevention of truancy is, above all, a priority, seeing that the right to education established in the Constitution,” stressed the government official.
According to Avelino Meneses, PIC is among the various projects that make up the ProSucesso-Azores for Education programme for the promotion of school success and that contributed to overcoming educational challenges.
For the Regional Secretary, the strategy implemented through this project, which was extended this year to all schools on the island of S. Miguel, consists of looking for “more partners to establish a strong and permanent consortium between the Government, municipalities, institutions and civil society agents."
For this reason, “more than a mere project, PIC is defined as a working methodology that requires its extension to the most problematic educational communities,” noted the government official.
In his speech, Avelino Meneses also reiterated the Regional Government's commitment, through the regional secretariats for Education and Culture, Social Solidarity and Health, to the development of ProSucesso - Azores for Education, a programme aimed at promoting school success, and the Regional Strategy to Combat Poverty and Social Exclusion.
