Avelino Meneses says the goals of the Government and teachers' unions are "in line" with regard to the teaching application
The Regional Secretary for Education and Culture stated in Ponta Delgada that the goals of the Government and teachers' unions are "in line" with regard to the revision of the Rules on the Teaching Application, which will benefit the "quality of education" in Azores.
"The expectations of teachers' unions and governmental promise intersect in two aspects: restore the frequency of applications, which will be held on an annual basis, and revise the rules requiring teachers to work at the same school for a period three years," said Avelino Meneses.
Speaking to journalists at the beginning of the first negotiating meeting with representatives of teachers' unions in the Azores, the Regional Secretary stressed that "the resolution of these issues contribute will further ensure the stability of the regional teaching staff." In addition, it will also promote "greater proximity of teachers to their families," which will "benefit the quality of education."
Avelino Meneses restated that the Government of the Azores is "available" to discuss "any aspect" with the Teachers’ Union of the Azores and the Teachers’ Democratic Union of the Azores.
Avelino Meneses expressed his expectations that the ongoing negotiation process will be concluded during the month of January so that we may take the necessary procedures to "eventually" promote the launch of a tender in 2017.
