Azores need "citizens who feel good about themselves" in the future, defended Regional Secretary for Education, Science and Culture
The Azores need "citizens who feel good about themselves" and who are "recognised for their work" in the future, defended the Regional Secretary for Education, Science and Culture, Luiz Fagundes Duarte.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the ceremony for the delivery of merit prizes to Antero de Quental Secondary School students, Luiz Fagundes Duarte defended "the importance of recognising and rewarding the merit" of students, who should be motivated to "have a high self-esteem."
"It is important that schools develop such initiatives, because students cannot be merely regarded in terms of programme compliance, but rather as future citizens.
According to the Secretary for Education, Science and Culture, we should recognise "the efforts of our students and when results are good, as in this case, it is even better."
In this context, Luiz Fagundes Duarte assured that his "department is doing everything within its reach" in order to encourage "schools, within their possibilities, to acknowledge the work of their students. By doing so, "they will be also recognising the work developed by teachers and the schools' own bodies."
With this spirit, "we will be all working towards the same goal, which is the future," concluded the Regional Secretary.
