English teaching in elementary schools has been carried out normally without changes
The Regional Secretary for Education and Training revealed on Tuesday that the teaching of English in elementary schools is being carried out the same way as in previous years.
Cláudia Cardoso told journalists that “there is no fundamental difference in this subject. The Scholastic kits were implemented some years ago and have been continuously used by schools, which have not raised any question regarding its use.”
The Regional Secretary also stressed that an official note was sent to all regional schools this year indicating that the kits would continue to be used.
Cláudia Cardoso also recalled that “there is no schoolbook validated by the Ministry of Education for Elementary English, so it does not do make sense to recommend the adoption of a schoolbook” in the Region when none has been validated by the Ministry of Education.
In this regard, Claudia Cardoso explained, “what we have done is to follow the national guidelines on the matter as we understand that at this school level, which is an early level of English, we should only adopt a validated schoolbook, which is currently unavailable.”
