The final marks achieved by 9th form school students in Azores in the final Portuguese and Math exams rose compared to 2016, according to data revealed by IAVE - Institute for Teaching Assessment.
As for the Portuguese exam, a total of 2,181 students took the exam in the 1st phase and the average mark stood at 52.6%, which represents an increase of 1.08% over the average registered in the previous year.
In the case of Math, the exam was taken by a total of 2,190 students in the first phase. The average mark rose 7.15% compared to 2016, rising from 37.42% to 44.57%.
The final exams have a weight of 30% in the final mark for internal students.
The results achieved, which are significantly better than in 2016, especially in Mathematics, are still below those desired by the Azorean Government. Nevertheless, the evolution of results is an important indicator for the analysis of the measures that have been implemented in overcoming the difficulties felt by students in this subject.
This effort is being undertaken within the integrated plan for the promotion of school success ProSucesso - Azores for Education; the latter has a 10-year implementation period and requires the necessary stability in policies.
