The Regional Secretary for Education and Training announced the opening of the internal and external application for the recruitment and selection of teachers in Angra do Heroísmo on Monday.
Claudia Cardoso, who entered into office last Friday, stated at a press conference that the measure ensures “the compliance with the law and also meets the expectations of teachers,” ensuring internal mobility and the attachment to the school staff.
The Regional Secretary stressed that this is a contribution “to the stability of the regional education system,” which aims to meet “the educational needs of students” and, simultaneously, “the needs of the school staff and the full use of the available human resources,” thus enhancing the teaching profession.
Nonetheless, Cláudia Cardoso reminded that these applications take place “in a specific context that should be considered, mentioning a provision of the Regional Legislative Decree, which approved the 2011 Budget, requiring the Regional Government to take “the necessary measures for a strict containment of public spending.”
In this context, and without “frustrating the expectation of teachers,” the Government considers that the solution “requires a careful assessment of needs” so that the applications may ensure the mobility of the teachers who are attached to the school staff, improving the stability of the teaching staff in Azorean schools.
Cláudia Cardoso also stressed that with this decision, the Azorean Government intends “to comply with the provisions of the legislation in force and simultaneously meet the expectations of teachers,” but she added that the Government “does not ignore the circumstances surrounding the opening of the 2011/2012application.”
In conclusion, the Regional Secretary reminded that the Regional Government aims to ensure and continue, through the Regional Secretariat for Education and Training, “the development of the education system” in the Azores, adding that the decision now taken is “another step towards the accomplishment of this goal.”
