Government of the Azores allocates over 90 thousand Euros to the conservation and recovery of whaling heritage
According to the contract published in the Official Journal, the Government of the Azores will support nine projects developed in the area of whaling heritage in the amount of 82 thousand Euros.
The Government will also allocate 8,100 Euros to two other projects in the same area, whose contracts were also published in the Official Journal on July 15.
These support measures are intended to cover the costs with the works for the conservation and recovery of whaling boats that belong to Lira Fraternal Calhetense Philharmonic Society, Aliança Calhetense Nautical Club, “O Cachalote” - Association for Defence of Vila do Topo's Heritage, S. Roque Nautical Club, Santa Cruz das Ribeiras Nautical Club, Lajes do Pico Nautical Club and to the nautical clubs of Graciosa, Santa Maria and Horta. The Government will also support the recovery of a whaling boat owned by André Manuel da Costa Silveira that is registered in Ponta Delgada.
"The Sports and Social Aspects and the Management of the Azores' Whaling Boats Heritage" project, an initiative developed by Abel Hermínio Lourenço Correia, will be granted a sum of 7,250.00 Euros, distributed in equal amounts by the economic years of 2015 and 2016 .
With these contracts, the Regional Government will allocate more than 116 Euros to support the conservation and recovery of the whaling heritage.
