Government to invest 1.7 million Euros in sports hall of Santa Maria secondary school
The Regional Government will invest about 1.7 million Euros in the refurbishment of the pavilion of Bento Rodrigues Basic Education and Secondary School in Vila do Porto, revealed today the Regional Secretary for Education and Culture.
“We took the commitment to begin the remodelling works of this school in 2019. This has effectively happened. We started with the kitchen, an intervention with a budget of 300 thousand Euros that is in the process of being completed,” said Avelino Meneses. The government official spoke at the end of a meeting with the School Board and the parents' and students' associations of this school, as part of the statutory visit to Santa Maria Island.
Regarding the contract work for the remodelling of the sports hall, Avelino Meneses informed that it will have a budget of around 1.7 million Euros, "well above the approximately 650 thousand Euros that we had estimated last year."
"Only the walls will be kept; everything else will be remodelled," said the Regional Secretary.
In the future, added Avelino Meneses, "we will continue to meet other needs so that, in terms of infrastructures, this school will stand up to the expectations of the school community, whether they be students, teachers or tutors.
