Investment in school buildings on São Miguel exceeds 70 million Euros in the last two years, says Avelino Meneses
The Regional Secretary for Education and Culture highlighted in Capelas the investment effort in school infrastructures carried out by the Regional Government on São Miguel in the last two years, exceeding 70 million Euros.
"In terms of school buildings, this is surely the turn of São Miguel Island," said Avelino Meneses, who spoke on the sidelines of the visit to the works of the new Capelas Basic Education School.
On the island of S. Miguel, where the Government of the Azores began a three-day visit, there are also ongoing works in Canto da Maia Basic Education School in Ponta Delgada, which are about to be completed, and the Government has already launched the tender for the construction works of Rabo de Peixe Basic Education School, stressed the Regional Secretary.
These interventions also cover the Arrifes School, whose project is in the final stage of implementation, and Lagoa School, whose rehabilitation project is in the preparation phase, added the government official.
In addition to these investments, Avelino Meneses pointed out a series of repairs carried out in several schools, including Antero de Quental, Ginetes, Povoação, Lagoa and Ribeira Grande Schools.
"If we consider the Canto da Maia, Capelas, Rabo de Peixe and Arrifes schools, we are talking about an investment of 53 million Euros, besides the 18 million-Euro investment of Ribeira Grande Basic Education that opened two years ago," noted the government official.
For this reason, the Regional Secretary refutes the "lack of investment or little investment on São Miguel, which falls far from the truth in the area of education."
