The Regional Secretary for Culture and Education appointed by orders published today in the Official Journal the juries for the "Daniel de Sá" Humanities prize and "António Dacosta" Painting prize.
The jury for the "Daniel de Sá" Humanities Prize is composed of João das Pedras Saramago and Victor Rui Dores, as members of the Regional Council of Culture, Madalena San Bento, Manuel Tomás Gaspar da Costa and Maria João Cavaco.
This award aims to distinguish, every two years, an original work written in Portuguese about the ‘Azores’ by a national or foreign author in the essay and literary creation categories.
Applications for this Regional Prize, with a cash value of six thousand Euros for each category, must be submitted by May 27.
The jury for "António Dacosta" Painting Prize is made up of Duarte Melo, as member of the Regional Council of Culture, João Urbano Melo Resendes, artist, and José Luís Gordo Porfírio, art critic.
Moreover, this award also intends to distinguish regional artists every two years as well as to acknowledge cultural activities developed in the Azores in the field of fine arts, special emphasis on the abstract painting and figurative painting categories.
The submission of works competing in this Regional Prize, with a cash value of six thousand Euros for each area, should be made until September 15 at the premises of the Regional Directorate for Culture or at its external services.
The rules on "Daniel de Sá" and "António Dacosta" prizes were amended by decision of the Council of the Government of the Azores in accordance with the Resolutions published in the Official Journal on March 30.
Created under the new strategy for culture in the Azores, The prizes that will distinguish authors and artists in the field of Humanities, Fine Arts and Architecture were awarded for the first time in 2014.
