The Regional Secretary for Education, Science and Culture estimated today that the amendments he intends to implement in the sector of education will be ready by the end of February.

Luiz Fagundes Duarte spoke at the end of a meeting with the Regional Teachers' Union of the Azores held in Angra do Heroísmo. Although the matters under revision involve labour negotiations, the government official expects that the new legislation for education enters into force in the Azores in the beginning of the next school year.
 
The Regional Secretary stressed that the Azorean Government intends to review the legislation on the management of schools, teacher evaluation, teaching career statute and student statute.

These matters have already been discussed at the Regional Council of Education and will be soon put "under public discussion so that they may receive the contribution of society."

Luiz Fagundes Duarte also mentioned the good environment of the meetings he has held with the teachers' unions, stressing the search for common goals such as the quality of teaching and the defence of the dignity of teachers
