The notice concerning the public call for tends for the construction of the new Lajes do Pico Basic Education and Secondary School on the island of Pico was published in the Official Gazette on Friday. The deadline for submission of proposals is 60 days from publication date.

With a base price set at € 14,000,000.00 and a maximum completion period of 24 months, this contract work is intended to provide the municipality of Lajes do Pico of a new building that meets the needs of school community. The new school encompasses all teaching levels: Preschool, Basic Education and Secondary School.
 
The new building will be equipped with activity rooms for kindergarten and special education as well with classrooms for the elementary, basic education and secondary school levels; laboratories; specific spaces for Technologies, Arts/Expressions and Physical Education; auditorium; Resource Centre; social and educational support spaces, among others.

With the launching of a contract work for the construction of another school of the regional educational system, the Regional Government maintains the level of investment for the modernisation of the school network in order to create the necessary conditions that promote an education of excellence, allowing students to acquire skills in an environment of innovation and research.

In this context, the Government of the Azores complies with the programme defined in the beginning of the current legislative period, which highlights the role of schools in promoting equality of opportunities and breaking the barriers that have kept many Azoreans in poverty and exclusion for several generations.
