The Regional Government of the Azores and the University of the Azores will soon sign a cooperation protocol between both entities, stated the Regional Secretary for Education, Science and Culture in Angra do Heroísmo on Friday.
Luiz Fagundes Duarte spoke at the end of an audience with the Dean of the University of the Azores, stressing that the document aims to "comprise a series of contracts and protocols already established or soon to be signed."
The protocol to be signed between the Regional Government and the University of the Azores is being finalised, added the Regional Secretary, who estimated an allocation for the services provided up to an amount of six million Euros.
This protocol is intended "to provide the Region with the tools and the necessary knowledge for its development" and, in this context, the University of the Azores plays an important role in this area.
Furthermore, the Regional Secretary for Education, Science and Culture considered the sea, environment, climate and agriculture as areas of interest for the Azores as well as humanities; the latter plays an important in the development of the critical knowledge necessary to a more developed society.
