Regional Government supports hiring of qualified coaches to consolidate Azorean sport at national and international level
The Regional Government published today in the Official Journal the ordinance regulating the granting of support to sports clubs for the hiring of qualified coaches.
The hiring of these technicians intends to ensure the training and competition of athletes included in the National High-Performance Status as well as of teams of clubs participating in major national competitions or in international events.
According to the ordinance, "the relevant results achieved by athletes and clubs involved in the high performance project as well as by athletes participating in national and international competitions entail an ongoing investment in human resources, namely in the hiring of qualified coaches by clubs to support the organisation and training of teams and athletes."
Moreover, the legal document also states that "the dedication to training and the results achieved in national and international competitions are a reference for the Autonomous Region and, particularly, for young people. In fact, this is a contribution to the understanding of sport as a component in the formation of citizens as well as a component that strengthens regional identity."
The ordinance issued by the Regional Secretariat for Education and Culture also mentions the strategic goals of the XII Regional Government's Programme: "promoting the excellence of sports associations with special emphasis on their organisation and expression, and increasing support for the preparation of high-performance athletes with a view to their participation in the Olympic and Paralympic Games."
The ordinance, which enters into force Wednesday, July 31, provides that the stipulated support, valid for a period of one year, may cover up to 12 teams or clubs; the number of coaches to be hired per club will be one per sport or gender.
