The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Secretariat for Education, Science and Culture, will fund nine scientific research centres at the University of the Azores, which represents a global investment of 70 thousand Euros.
These funds are primarily targeted at the support of research, development and innovation institutions in order to consolidate a sustained network of reference and excellence in the field of scientific research in the Azores.
The support measures have already been published in the Official Journal, one of which is currently pending approval. Their awarding follows the application open during the month of September.
This year, the measures will support the Centre of Volcanology and Seismic Risk Assessment, the Social Studies Centre and the Centre of Applied Economics Studies of the Atlantic.
In addition, the following centres will be supported under these measures: IMAR - Institute of Marine Research Centre at the University of the Azores, Natural Resources Centres, the Overseas History Centre, the Centre for Studies on Climate, Meteorology and Global Change and the Biotechnology Centre.
The granting of funds to scientific research institutions is part of an initiative that is annually launched by the Government. In 2014, new support measures will be awarded to research centres as well as some additional measures to support the organisation of events and scientific publications.
