The Regional Government welcomes the fact that the National Government has finally assumed their responsibilities to the University of the Azores, which is under its jurisdiction, by granting the necessary funds to support the University overcoming its well-known difficulties.

However, the Government of the Azores calls the attention for the challenges that still lie ahead and for the need of finding a lasting solution that ensures the sustainability of the University of the Azores.

The Regional Government reiterates its willingness to continue supporting this higher education institution in the context of its tripartite structure and scientific research. The Region's support to the University of the Azores has surpassed 24.8 million Euros over the last nine years.
