Regional Secretariat for Education and Culture awards contract work for the construction of the new Calheta Basic Education and Secondary School on São Jorge Island
The Regional Secretariat for Education and Culture and the representative of the consortium of the construction company AFAVIAS-Açores/AFAVIAS awarded in Angra do Heroísmo the contract work for the construction of the new Calheta Basic Education and Secondary School on São Jorge Island.
Awarded by 15.3 million Euros, this work has a completion period of 24 months. It includes the total demolition of the existing school building, the construction of a new building and the construction of surrounding streets planned in the project.
The new facilities of Calheta Basic Education and Secondary School, whose contract work is included in the Regional Public Works Charter, will have a capacity for 550 students in different levels: 75 in preschool, 125 in elementary school, 250 in middle and junior school, and 100 in secondary school.
The new school will consist of two buildings: the school and sports pavilion. It will have a construction area over 1,300 square metres and several specific rooms, namely science laboratories, computer rooms, music rooms as well as technological and artistic education rooms.
In addition to a library/media centre, the new facilities will also include an auditorium with capacity for 150 seats, social areas, kitchen and cafeteria.
