Bathers with reduced mobility to have access platform to São Lourenço beach area on Santa Maria Island
The Regional Government, through the Regional Directorate for Sea Affairs, has opened a procurement procedure amounting to 35,400 Euros for the acquisition of a lifting platform for the access of people with reduced mobility to the São Lourenço beach area on the island of Santa Maria.
The lifting platform, which will have capacity of at least two people, should be installed in early September.
This was a commitment made by the Regional Secretariat for the Sea, Science and Technology that will be now fulfilled, after all the necessary procedures have been conducted in search of the best technical solution.
The placement of a lifting platform, which will pass through the beach area support building, was the technical solution found after studying several solutions, such as the construction of an access ramp. According to the legislation in force and considering the uneven terrain, it would have to be 156 metres long. The placement of a lift near the wall was another solution under consideration; however, it would have a negative impact on the landscape and would entail more maintenance costs due to sea erosion.
On July 18, invitations were sent to three companies for the submission of proposals. The deadline for the procedure is July 31.
