The Regional Secretariat for the Sea, Science and Technology, through the Regional Directorate for Sea Affairs, has started the procurement procedures of two contract works for the protection and redevelopment of the coastline of Faial Island.
According to the Regional Director for Sea Affairs, one of the interventions will "reinforce the coastal protection of São Sebastião Fort in Porto Pim, which includes the repairing of excavated areas and the placement of stone pitched protection wall."
The works in the surrounding area of São Sebastião Fort, which take into consideration "landscape and heritage preservation," represent an investment of 83 thousand Euros, with a completion period of 90 days after the beginning of works.
The other contract work planned for the island of Faial will include the coastal protection and redevelopment of Feteira Port, namely "the structural repair of the concrete wharf and the reprofiling of the port."
"These works represent an investment of 18 thousand Euros. They will improve the operation and safety conditions of this small port," Filipe Porteiro said, adding that these interventions will have an estimated completion period of 30 days.
The Regional Government has other planned interventions for the protection of the coastline and consolidation of cliffs on several islands of the archipelago as part of its strategy of adaptation to climate change.
