Regional Government launches tender for the coastal redevelopment of Fajã de São João on São Jorge Island
The Regional Government, through the Regional Directorate for Sea Affairs, has launched a public tender for the coastal redevelopment of Fajã de São João on the island of São Jorge, with a base price of 250 thousand Euros, plus VAT at the legal rate in force.
The intervention, with a completion period of 90 days, will repair the coastal protection near the Panela Port, partially destroyed, in order to further prevent its degradation, through the reconstruction of the coastal profile with five to seven tonnes of rockfill.
As for the cliff located to the east of the housing settlement of Fajã, the work includes the construction of a cyclopean concrete wall at the base of cliff as well as the recovery of the existing stone masonry wall, covering an overall extension of 91 metres.
Considering that the frontal protection is immediately provided by the beach that stretches along the base of the cliff, the wall to be built will function as a protection element against the overflowing that swash that hits the cliff, thus mitigating its erosion.
