Azorean Science Centres are one of the faces of "Citizen Science," says Regional Director for Science and Technology
The Regional Director for Science and Technology stated in Lagoa that the Regional Government has paved "the way for greater involvement of citizens in scientific production" in the Region, adding that Science Centre "will be one of the faces of the new approach to 'Citizen Science'."
Bruno Pacheco spoke at the opening of the 10th Meeting of the Network of Live Science Centre at Expolab. He stressed that the Azorean Government has invested "in the approach between formal education and informal scientific and technological education" in order to "improve the overall training of citizens and the development of their creative, intellectual and social potential."
In this regard, he pointed out the creation of the Network of the Azores Live Science Centre in partnership with several civil society institutions as a way to provide the Region with a "series of scientific communication infrastructures that cover various fields of knowledge in the archipelago, such as the case of biodiversity, marine science or volcanology."
In his speech, the Regional Director also noted that the Azorean Government "has been working to strengthen the capacity of communication and dissemination of scientific papers produced in the Azores" by providing various financing mechanisms.
For Bruno Pacheco, the fact that the Meeting of Live Science Centre was held in the Azores for the first time is "a clear demonstration of the Region's involvement" in this network.
